About The Horseshoe Inn

The Horseshoe Inn has been welcoming visitors for over two centuries, with its roots reaching back to the late 1700s and early 1800s. Tucked into the hamlet of Croes-y-Pant near Pontypool, the pub has always been a cosy stopping place for locals and travellers alike, its stone walls and slate floors keeping much of that original charm alive today.

Its position was no accident – the nearby Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal opened in the early 1800s, and it’s likely the inn first served the workers, boatmen, and traders who passed along this busy route. With Goytre Wharf just down the road, The Horseshoe would have been the perfect spot to pause for a pint and a hearty meal after a day’s work on the water or in the limekilns.

Over the years, The Horseshoe has stayed true to its roots as a traditional country pub – warming fires in winter, views across the Monmouthshire hills in summer, and plenty of good Welsh food and drink at the heart of it all. Still family-friendly, community-minded, and proud of its history, it remains what it’s always been: a proper country inn that feels like home.
